This article discusses current views on the application of total hip arthroplasty in fractures of the femoral neck. The advantages and disadvantages of this kind of treatment are discussed, as well as the technical problems which the surgeon can encounter during surgery. On the basis of the literature and the author's own experience, the attempt is made to specify the indications for this kind of treatment. In conclusion, the factors are presented which should be taken into consideration during the qualification of patients with femoral neck fracture for hip arthroplasty.
