Abstract provided by Publisher

In the period 1997-1999, 51 patients were surgically treated for injury to the cervical spine at the Rzeszów Voivodeship Hospital. There were 46 men and 5 women, with the majority in the age group 15-20 years. The most common causes of injury were diving and automobile accidents. Most of these patients were referred to our Department for treatment 1-3 days after the injury was incurred. The treatment method of choice was surgery. The majority of the patients were referred to the Department or Rehabilitation at our hospital as soon as their surgical wounds had healed.
